The breadth is also the catch: those layouts are largely one generic template re-skinned in each app's colours, and next to the real apps the resemblance is loose — a viewer who uses WhatsApp or Bumble daily won't mistake Mockly's version for it. Where Mockly is strong
Breadth, and a low commitment. Mockly's catalogue is the widest of the dedicated mockup tools — chat apps including dating apps (Bumble, Tinder), workplace tools (Slack, Teams), AI chats (ChatGPT, Claude), social posts, stories, email and iOS notifications — with a free no-signup editor and premium sold as a 7-day pass or a one-time lifetime licence rather than a subscription. For scattered static-mockup needs across many platforms, that's a genuinely good shape.
Where MockChats pulls ahead
The video gap is the whole story. Chat-story content works because the conversation unfolds — the typing pause before the reveal, the tick flipping to read, the next bubble landing. Mockly's pages describe video as turning stills into motion and “rotating 3D video” of a device mockup; nowhere does it describe the messages animating in sequence. MockChats renders exactly that, as its core product, on every plan including free.
Accuracy is the second gap, and it's a stark one. Put Mockly's chat layouts next to the apps they're named after and what you see is one generic bubble template re-coloured 21 ways — the WhatsApp, iMessage and Bumble mockups share their bones, and none is a close likeness of the current app. Naming 21 platforms is not the same as reproducing them; a catalogue that wide can't be maintained per-app, and it shows. MockChats' four platforms are separate, maintained rebuilds — with animated typing indicators, per-message read-receipt states, emoji reactions, voice notes and WhatsApp dark mode, details that don't appear on Mockly's feature lists at all.
One honest nuance on dating apps: Mockly does have static Bumble and Tinder layouts, and Tinder is one MockChats doesn't cover. But the reskin caveat applies there too — they're recolours of the same template, not reproductions. MockChats' Bumble and Hinge are specific rebuilds of the real apps, animated.
Which should you pick?
Choose Mockly if…
