MockChats covers four platforms — WhatsApp, iMessage, Hinge and Bumble — but rebuilds each in depth and lets you download real, finished chat videos on the free tier.

Where TheFake is strong
The free static offer is genuinely generous: watermark-free PNG screenshots, even in guest mode with no account, across a catalogue of 25+ chat layouts — WhatsApp and iMessage to Discord, Snapchat and LinkedIn, plus dating apps, posts, comments, stories and even email — 45+ generator pages in all. Free accounts sync projects across devices. Pro is aggressively priced too: a $4.99 week pass, $7.99 a month or a $49 lifetime licence (promotional pricing when we checked), adding video export, AI script drafting and carousel exports.
If your output is static screenshots across many platforms, it's a genuinely strong free tool at an impulse-buy price.
Where MockChats pulls ahead
Free video, judged on the output. TheFake gates every animated export behind Pro — on the free tier the animated preview plays with a watermark, and there's no video download at all. MockChats' free tier downloads 3 real, finished (watermarked) videos a month, so you can post an actual export before spending anything. If video is the product you're buying, being able to evaluate it first matters.
Depth over breadth, again — and here it isn't small print. TheFake's layouts read as chat-like at a glance, but held against the current apps they're noticeably inaccurate, and accuracy is exactly what believability hangs on when the viewer uses the real app every day. Forty-five-plus generator pages is a lot of surface area to keep pixel-accurate as apps redesign. MockChats maintains four — and goes deeper on each than TheFake's feature lists describe: voice notes on WhatsApp, Hinge and Bumble, emoji reactions per platform, WhatsApp dark mode and wallpaper, and Apple emoji rendered as images so the chat looks identical on every viewer's device.
Dating apps are where that gap is widest. TheFake now lists Tinder, Bumble and Hinge generators, and on paper its Hinge page promises roses, likes, prompts and voice-note replies. But listing a platform and reproducing it are different things: as checked in August 2026, the renderings are noticeably inaccurate — the distinctive details that make a thread read as the real app are missing, so the mock doesn't pass with anyone who actually uses it. MockChats rebuilds Hinge and Bumble as specific, current reproductions: Hinge's liked-photo opener with its serif caption, the heart reaction, Bumble's matched banner and bubble shapes, voice notes on both — all animating in the video export, downloadable on the free tier so you can judge both tools' output before paying.
