MockChats vs Zeoob: free screenshots, or chat videos?
Zeoob is a free, ad-supported generator for static social mockups — WhatsApp and iMessage chats plus Instagram, Facebook, Twitter/X and Snapchat posts — with live preview and account saving. We'll be blunt, because we checked: its chat mockups look fake at a glance. The renderings are dated and generic, and don't much resemble the apps they're named after — nobody who uses WhatsApp or iMessage daily would mistake one for a real screenshot. MockChats does a different job entirely: it rebuilds WhatsApp, iMessage, Hinge and Bumble in current detail and exports the conversation as an animated vertical video, typing dots and read receipts included.
The short version: on chat mockups these two barely compete — Zeoob is for a free static prop where nobody needs to believe it; MockChats is for chats that have to read as real, in still or video. Zeoob's genuine niche is elsewhere, in its free social-post generators.

Where Zeoob is strong
It's genuinely free — no paid tier at all, funded by ads — and it stretches beyond chats into social-post mockups: fake Instagram posts, tweets, Facebook posts, Snapchat snaps and TikTok posts, with live preview and the ability to save projects to an account. For a static prop across several social formats at zero cost, it's a sensible pick.
Where MockChats pulls ahead
Realism — and here the gap is wide enough that this page is less a comparison than a category boundary. Zeoob's chat mockups read as fake on sight: the renderings are dated and generic, and don't much resemble WhatsApp or iMessage as they look today. The feature lists tell the same story — on its WhatsApp generator you set names, avatars, timestamps and a seen/unseen state for the last message; there's no typing indicator, no emoji reactions, no voice notes and no dark mode on offer. MockChats treats realism as the entire product: current-design rebuilds where every one of those details exists and animates in the export.
Video is the other headline gap: Zeoob's chat tools download stills, not animations, while MockChats' core output is the animated vertical video the chat-story format actually runs on.
MockChats also renders every emoji as Apple images, so a chat looks identical on an iPhone, an Android phone or a desktop — rather than inheriting whatever emoji font the viewer's device uses.
And as with the rest of the free-generator crowd: no dating apps. Hinge and Bumble are MockChats-only territory.
Which should you pick?
Choose Zeoob if…
- You want a free static prop, don't mind ads, and nobody needs to believe it's real.
- You need a fake Instagram, Facebook or Twitter/X post, not just chats.
Choose MockChats if…
- You want the conversation animated into a vertical video.
- The chat needs typing dots, reactions, voice notes or dark mode.
- You're making Hinge or Bumble content.
- You want consistent Apple emoji on every viewer's device.
What each one costs
Zeoob is entirely free and ad-supported, with no paid tier (as checked August 2026). If a rough static prop is the whole job and nobody needs to believe it's real, you can't beat the price.
MockChats is free to start (3 watermarked videos or 9 images a month, no ads) with paid plans from $12/mo — $9/mo billed annually — removing the watermark and adding monthly export credits, iMessage at Starter, and Hinge & Bumble at Pro ($29/mo). The paid tiers exist because the product goes where Zeoob doesn't — animated video with the full set of chat details.
Fiction, not fake proof
Whichever tool you pick: fake chats are for storytelling, parody, skits and mockups. Don't impersonate real people or pass a scripted chat off as a genuine message, endorsement or evidence — that's against our terms, and it's the line that keeps the format on the right side of the rules.
